Personal Wellness

Select three different activities to focus on your personal wellness:

Take a Hike

Stopping and consciously engaging our senses when out hiking not only calms and grounds us—relaxing both mind and body—but it also deepens our connection to the natural world. Before setting off on your hike, take a few moments to allow yourself to come into the present moment, letting go of any thoughts or concerns that might be on your mind.

Take 15-20 minutes to leave your desk and go for a walk/hike and intentionally use your senses to quiet your mind and refresh.

Use your senses to quiet your mind:

  • Look around you and silence your thoughts and take in what is around you.  Find an object to focus on and look at all of the detail
  • Listen as you walk try to notice the sounds around you- wind, birds, other people.
  • Touch: Take a minute to notice the sensation of the sun or a cool breeze or find an object with an interesting texture to explore
  • Smell: Bring a conscious awareness to your sense of smell. Smell can be harder to detect, so closing your eyes may be helpful.

Choosing Your Word For The Year

  1. Ask Yourself Questions

Reflect and think about what you want to accomplish this year.

  • What could you use more of? Less of?
  • What skill do you want to acquire?
  • What brings you energy?
  • How do you want to feel?

2. Create a List of Words

Spend some time writing down a list of words that pop into your head. Write them on index cards. Circle the words that speak to you.

3. Review and Refine

  • Narrow it down to 2-3 words.
  • Pick one and commit to it.
  • Put the word somewhere prominent where you will see it every day.
